Mama Mpima

Mama Mpima is someone who grows on us. To begin with we only know that she is a traditionalist who practices witchcraft and is a supporter of female genital mutilation (FGM). She also makes money selling the illegal and highly potent drink called chang’aa.

But she suffers tragedy and great pain and – through this suffering – we sympathise with her and watch her develop into a more understanding and enlightened woman. She has one daughter called Stella.
